- Jarle Volden has posted back-to-back top-20 finishes for the first time in his career, coming in 12th at both the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate and the Hootie at Bulls Bay Invitational.
- Purdue has recorded 10 even or under-par rounds this year, coming in just 23 total rounds. The 43.5 percent of even or under-par rounds is easily the best in school history (.342 set during the 2015-16 season; 13 / 38).
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Purdue men’s golf team recorded its second round under par of the weekend, placing seventh at the competitive Hootie at Bulls Bay Invitational in Charleston, South Carolina.
The Boilermakers wrapped up the 54-hole event with a total of 3-under par 861 (285-290-286), finishing 17 shots behind champion, No. 34-ranked South Carolina (-20) and 13 shots behind No. 25-ranked Mississippi (-16). No. 23-ranked Auburn (-10), North Carolina State (-10), Georgia State (-5) and Kentucky (-4) also edged the Boilermakers.
Purdue did record head-to-head victories over No. 14-ranked Virginia, No. 27-ranked Missouri, No. 31-ranked Kansas and No. 45-ranked Houston.
As a team, Purdue has finished under par in three of the last four tournaments, posting a cumulative score of 17-under par. The Boilermakers are now averaging 289.00 strokes per round, just off the school record average of 288.19 set during the 2001-02 season.
Purdue has been even or under-par as a team in 10 of its 23 rounds this year, the third-most rounds of even-par or better in school history. Since the start of last year, Purdue has been even or under-par in 23 of its 61 rounds.
Fernando Barco continued his recent strong play with his third straight top-12 finish at 2-under par 214 (70-72-72). Barco was 2-over par through 12 holes before birdieing two of his final six holes to move back to even par for his round.
With his finish, Barco is now 11-under par combined in all three events this spring, averaging 70.89 strokes in nine spring-season rounds. Barco leads the team with a 72.35 stroke average, currently the second-best average in Purdue history.
Jarle Volden also had a strong tournament, placing tied for 17th at 1-under par 215 (70-72-73). His 215 is one shot off a career-best, 54-hole score and he now has two straight top-20 finishes after having just two in his first 17 career events.
Austin Eoff recorded a strong final round, surging to a top-25 finish at even-par 216 (74-73-69), good for a 24th-place tie. Eoff had four birdies and four bogeys on his opening nine, before playing his final eight holes in 3-under par to finish with a 3-under par 69 in Tuesday’s final round. His 69 marked his 60th career round of even-par or better and 16th career round in the 60s.
Brian Carlson tied for 51st at 5-over par 221 (71-73-77), while Timmy Hildebrand was tied for 57th at 6-over par 222 (76-74-72).
Purdue will close out the regular season April 15-16, when it hosts the Boilermaker Invitational at the Kampen Course.
