WOMEN’S SOCCER: CALIFORNIA GOALKEEPER SIGNS WITH IU EAST

RICHMOND, Ind. – Amanda Nicholson, a goalkeeper at Mendocino College (Calif.), has signed a letter of intent to join the new Indiana University East women’s soccer program for the team’s inaugural season during the 2017-18 school year.

Red Wolves coach Shane Meridith announced the signing March 22.

Nicholson holds the Mendocino school records for career minutes played for a goalkeeper, career wins (21) and career shutouts (15). Mendocino won its conference championship this past fall. Nicholson was one of two keepers picked for the northern California all-region team.

Amanda is the daughter of Butch and Maurine Nicholson. She is a native of McKinleyville, Calif. She plans to major in secondary education with a minor in coaching.

“I chose IU East because I wanted a new experience and was looking for schools outside of California,” Nicholson wrote. “On my visit to IU East, right away I felt a family atmosphere, which is very important to me, and an instant connection to the school and coaching staff. I feel this would be a perfect fit for me. I am excited to be a part of the Red Wolves Nation and the inaugural women’s soccer team.”

IU East in 2016 announced plans to add NAIA men’s and women’s soccer programs. The teams will begin NAIA competition during the 2017-18 school year.
