(Bristol, TN) The 12U New Castle Lady Trojans started their World Series journey with a 4-0 loss on Friday afternoon. Thursday’s game against the Georgia Stix was postponed due to weather conditions. Lady Trojans started their day at 1:30 pm on Friday against Jinx Softball from Kentuckky. Mackayla Huckeby was the starting pitcher for the Lady Trojans. In the bottom of the first inning she struck out three of five batters. She only walked one runner with a base on balls in the first inning. New Castle only had three players bat in the first. Tyner flew out to short, Huckeby flew out to center, and Taylor didn’t tag up in time. Huckeby saw four batters in the top of two, striking out two. Lady Trojans left two on base in the topo of the second inning. Tabor had the sacrifice advancing lead off batter Smith. Bouslog had a pop fly out to the catcher, and Gillock grounded out to first. The battle continued in the bottom of the second inning as the Jinx only got one runner around to second, and Huckeby struck out two. Lady Trojans had four players bat in the top of the third, Bouslog and Semler were thrown out at first off of hits to second and short. Taylor also flew out to right field. Three of the four batters were immediately out in the bottom of the third. Lead off batter Perry for the Jinx was walked with a base on balls. The next batter was thrown out at first on the dropped third strike play, a strike out swinging thrown by Huckeby, and a snag in centerfield by Taylor brought the inning to a close. Huckeby led off in the fourth with a line drive to short. A pop foul fly by Tabor, and a strike out by Graham ended the top of the inning. Three of the four Jinx batters were out off of their hits, and Huckeby only walked one with a base on balls. Kirk was the only batter to get on for the Trojans in the fifth. An out at first, a strike out swinging, and one other out were the three outs in the bottom of the inning. However, Lady Trojans had a throwing error and allowed two runs to score in the fifth. In the top of the sixth, Lady Trojans only had one runner reach first base which was D. Taylor. Huckeby and Taylor each pop fly outs and Smith struck out looking. Jinx scored their first two batters in the bottom of the inning and the others had fly outs, making the score 4-0. In the top of the seventh, Kirk had a fly out to short and Graham was unable to tag up in time resulting in a double play. One other out brought the game to a close. Lady Trojans lost pool play game one to Jinx softball 4-0. New Castle is now 25-3 on the season, and 0-1 in the tournament. Catch all games live at http://www.kwgproductions.com.
